Best Option: Domestically fly to town (Bocas Del Toro) from Panama City - Highly Recommended!

  • Book a flight ticket from your home town to Panama City (International Tocumen Airport)

    (Ps. It’s recommended that you stay 1 night in Panama City and enjoy city life and exploring what Panama City has to offer, and then continuing the travel to the island the next day.)

  • Fly from Panama City to Bocas Del Toro (Albrook Airport), approx. 1 hour flight

  • Once you’re in Bocas Del Toro Airport, it’s easy to find transportation. Just tell a driver from drivers that wait for planes to land, that you are going to “Ataraxia”. It’s a short taxi from Bocas Del Toro airport to the boat dock (5-10 minutes). Then a 5- 10 minute water taxi from Bocas De Toro to Isla Bastimentos , Ataraxia lodge. Any driver who is at the small Bocas airport can help you with this and this should be around $5 USD.

OPTION 3: Budget-travel *not recommended and unreliable

Taking an overnight bus from Panama City + a boat
(cost: estimated to be at less than $200 after arriving into Panama City)

1 - Take a flight from your hometown to Panama City (Tocumen Airport)

2- Take a taxi from Tocumen Airport to Albrook Bus Terminal (Gran Terminal de Transporte)

3- Take an overnight bus to Almirante. Overnight buses depart at 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm (this is an old schedule, please double check the times online just in case). You will arrive to Almirante between 5am to 7am (10 - 11 hours)

4- Take a taxi from Almirante to the boat docks

5- Take a boat to Bocas del Toro, boats depart every 30 minutes until 6pm (30 minutes)

6- From Bocas del Toro take a water taxi (5- 10 min) to Bastimentos Isla which leads to Ataraxia Lodge

Notes:

- make sure to get off the bus at Almirante as the last stop for the bus is beyond that point

- Overnight bus is recommended over the day bus because boats stop service at 6pm. And if you take a day bus you would need to plan a stay in Almirante as you would arrive late yet staying in Almirante is not recommended.

- Currently there are three water taxi companies : Bocas Marine Tours, Transporte Torres and Taxi 25. - Taxi fares are anywhere between before 6pm - The Bocas del Toro bus ticket office numbers are: 303-6326 and 303-6327 in Panama City , and 758-8127 in Bocas del Toro.

- This bus cannot be booked in advance its a bus you wait for.
